The Gifting Season
Here in my home we celebrate Christmas, my husband loves christmas he absolutely adores it and I’m sure Eve will get caught up in the magic of it this year too in fact she is already beginning to. I on the other hand have never really enjoyed Christmas Day at all, but what I do enjoy is making gifts for others and the whole process of putting together amazing things that you hope the other person will love just as much as you did making it for them. This for me goes wrong every year as i struggle to find the time to make everything so I’m scaling it back and working with the ice that I have to hopefully put some lovely things aside month by month.
September I launched the Azuma Bukuro make a long videos and tutorials, which was absolutely perfect timing! I made up several beautiful bags over the course of the tutorial and put them aside to wrap gifts with… (I’m going for a sustainable Christmas this year too can you tell?).
The situation in the UK at the moment is such that we won’t be able to visit as many family members this year and so my ‘theme’ for this years gifts is ‘A Hug’ I wanted to gift comfort and warmth… So I’m attempting to put together all the things that remind me of a giant hug without my being there. Cosy socks, big scarves, home infused bath salts, cookies and some wonderful handmade bits from Eve too. I’m also going to try and pop a little plant in each one… or on the outside of each one. I listened to a wonderful podcast that made me really think about the way I gift my plants and cuttings… You’re not just giving a part of your plant your giving time and love, specifically the time and love it took you to grow your plant and cultivate it for them and as time is such a precious commodity I don’t think there is any greater gift. Here’s a picture of all the cuttings in my bathroom at the beginning of their journey!
